Spirea, Magic Carpet
Spiraea japonica 'Magic Carpet'
Fertilizing Code:04/20 to 04/21
Pruning Code:03/28 to 03/29

A small, compact shrub dwarf in habit with stunning, red tinged golden foliage. Flower clusters are deep pink and bloom in June. An interesting fall color of rusty-brown, unusual for the species. Especially attractive when planted in mass as a groundcover.

Care Instruction:
Soil and Moisture: Spirea are able to adapt to most any soil type and do not need unusual amounts of organic matter. They do however, appreciate decent drainage so avoid heavy clay in low areas.
Fertilizing: Apply a 10-10-10 granular fertilizer around the base of the plant in the spring. One application per season is sufficient.
Pruning: Trim the plant back to give a nice compact shape either in the late fall after freezing or very early spring before new growth begins.
Special Notes: Shearing the plants lightly after their bloom period will not only clean up the spent flowers, but will encourage a second round of blooms.
