Care Instruction:
Soil and Moisture: Hostas thrive in soils rich with organic matter, amendments such as compost and peat moss are perfect. Hosta require lots of moisture, so rather than short frequent waterings, water deeply once a week.
Fertilizing: These plants like to be fed. Ferilize with a 10-10-10 granular once in April, May and June. Water the plants immediately after fertilizing.
Trimming: After the foliage has died back due to frost or freezing weather, cut back to the ground and remove debris.
Division: Most varieties do not need to be divided. Occasionally on very old plants, the centers weaken or die out, in this case, division is recommended.
Special Notes: Snails and slugs can be a problem to some Hosta varieties. There are many methods of control, select the best fit your particular site if the pests become a problem.
